If you are a tourist and you are visiting New York for the first time, what are the places you should go to? Here are some of the best places to visit in the Big Apple.

The Met, or the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is regarded as the biggest and most prestigious art museum out West. It houses some of the most impressive treasures collected from various parts of the world. There are Greek artifacts, bronze Rodins, and Dutch Master canvases. You can also go to the rooftop cafe if you want to catch a breather.

The Times Square is another landmark in New York. It is considered the most chaotic part of the city, what with is honking horns, flashing lines and packed crowds. There are tons of billboards, digital displays, television broadcasts and street performances. But if you prefer a relaxed atmosphere, you might want to stay away from Times Square.

A landmark in the Big Apple that has been associated with romance and history is the Empire State Building which towers 1,000 feet over the city. On a clear day, visitors can view sights up to 80 miles away. The view is equally impressive especially at night as the skyline of New York City dazzles.

The Museum of Modern Art, on the other hand, is famous for its rich collection of architectural work. It recently had a $425 million renovation and now boasts of spacious and stylishly designed ceilings, and its galleries are suffused with natural light. It houses some renowned masterpieces like the Water Lilies of Monet, Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and The Starry Night of van Gogh.

Another must-visit place in the Big Apple is the Brooklyn Bridge. It spans the East River, connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan Island. Tourists can have a leisurely stroll here especially on the walkway. You can also get the best view of the East River and the New York Harbor by strolling in the Brooklyn Bridge.

On the other hand, the Statue of Liberty has been associated with the Big Apple for many years. It is a universal symbol of democracy and freedom. It stands 152 feet, sitting atop a pedestal on Liberty Island.

If you are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, then go to the Central Park. Considered as the center of Manhattan, it has 843 acres of tranquil lakes, meandering paths, ponds, and open meadows. It is a relaxing area for equestrians, strollers, softball and soccer enthusiasts, boaters, and outdoor performers.

Another area worth checking out in New York is the Bronx Zoo which hosts gorilla, elephant and tigers. Then there’s the Soho which has cobblestone streets, cast-iron buildings and art galleries to whet the interest of tourists.
